Abstract

False rape accusations are a serious issue in Bangladesh since they harm both the accused and the criminal justice system. False accusations of rape can damage the reputations of real victims and call into question their accounts of what happened. This study intended to identify the underlying reasons of false rape accusations, highlight pertinent issues, and consider the ramifications for both the accused and society. The motivation of the study was to examine whether Bangladesh's current legal framework is effective in addressing false rape allegations, considering the socioeconomic factors that contribute to their emergence. As part of its research approach, this study did a thorough examination of the literature, relying on previously published works, online publications, journals, and data from statistics. The chosen sources' dependability, security, and intellectual integrity are all carefully analyzed. The results of the study showed that false rape accusations have an adverse effect on both the accused's lifespan and the legal system. It became clear that making a false accusation might have serious repercussions for both the accused and the actual victims of sexual assault. Laws designed to ensure justice for accused and raped individuals have been ineffectively applied, leading to negative effects. Legislative reform of rape should be treated with seriousness, preventing challenges in identifying raped individuals.
